Procurement - Contract Management Fundamentals

Overview

This intermediate course describes the skills required to manage contracts.

The training has been designed specifically for individuals who are new to, or requiring an update in, the undertaking of procurement and contract management in their role in WA Local Government.

It includes undertaking preparations, establishing and maintaining contract management arrangements, monitoring and maintaining contract performance, and completing and reviewing contracts.

This unit applies to those working as employees with responsibilities relating to contract management and covers legislative and policy framework related to procurement and contract management; effective use of the WALGA Procurement Toolkit and templates; overview of the end to end process; roles and responsibilities in managing contract for best outcomes for Local Government.

The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out.

Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered.

Recommended Prior Learning: PCE – Procurement and Contract Essentials
  • PPISW – Procurement – Planning and Introduction to Specification Writing (Optional)
  • PSSECA – Procurement – Supplier Selection, Evaluation & Contract Award (Optional)

Target Audience

This course is for you if you:
  • Manage contracts or contractors
  • Provide support to an officer or manager responsible for contracts/ors
This may include inside and outside crews such as governance, procurement, works, facilities maintenance, finance, events etc.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants should be able to:
  • Establish and maintain contract management arrangements within a Local Government context;
  • Implement risk management;
  • Performance manage a contractor; and
  • Close out a contract.

Cancellations, transfers and substitutions

  • Requested must be received in writing via email, letter or fax.
  • Cancellations received within 5 working days of the start of the course will incur a 20% administration fee of the full course cost.
  • Non-attendance or cancellations received within 2 working days of the start of the course will incur the full course fee.
  • Participants can only transfer course dates once without incurring the full fee.
  • Substitutions can be made at any time and no fee will be incurred.
