Financial Fundamentals - Monthly Annual Reporting examines the legislation, organisational and accounting principles that apply to Local Government accounting, including taxation principles.

The course covers the accounting process, financial reporting responsibilities and annual financial report process.

Topics covered within the course will include the legislative framework for Local Government accounting; classification of transactions; managing the accounting function; monthly and annual financial reporting responsibilities; and preparation of annual financial report.

Important: Participants are required to bring a laptop as two exercises will require the use of Microsoft Excel (for data input only). A basic understanding of Microsoft Excel is therefore required.

Target Audience

Suitable for Local Government Officers and Managers who would like to increase their knowledge of Local Government financial management, reporting and budgeting.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of completing this program, participants should be able to:

  • understand the legislative framework that applies to Local Government accounting
  • recognise how accounting, taxation and organisational principles that apply to the Local Government accounting function
  • understand the classification of transactions in Local Government accounting
  • understand the preparation of monthly financial reports
  • understand the end of year financial management responsibilities, and
  • engage in the preparation of annual financial report.

  • Cancellations received within 5 working days of the start of the course will incur a 20% administration fee of the full course cost.
  • Non-attendance or cancellations received within 2 working days of the start of the course will incur the full course fee.
  • Participants can only transfer course dates once without incurring the full fee.
  • Substitutions can be made at any time and no fee will be incurred.
