Waste Management Essentials

Overview

Waste Management is an essential service provided by, or on behalf of, Local Government
for households. It is a complex area, with many opportunities to improve Local Governments environment, social and economic performance.
In response to feedback from the Sector WALGA are working to develop new waste management training, with the aim to bring the Waste Management Certificate III onto the Associations scope to delivery.

WALGA has developed training to cover the identification and segregation of waste and recoverable materials, waste avoidance and education and behaviour change in relation to waste management.

Target Audience

Suitable for Local Government officers whose role requires them to be directly or indirectly involved in Waste Management or officer wanting to work in the waste industry.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of completing this course, participants should be able to understand:
  • Practical knowledge of waste storage and separation to facilitate resource recovery
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and policy
  • Skills relating to waste education and behaviour change; and
  • Knowledge relating to waste avoidance options and approaches.
