This course outlines key drivers of the global focus on sustainability, National and State initiatives and responsibilities, and the mechanisms available to Local Government to create both organisational and community sustainability.

Target Audience

Suitable for Local Government environmental health officers, waste management officers and those officers whose roles align with sustainability.

Learning Outcomes

In this Module, you will learn about mechanisms to embed sustainability across Local Government, and ways to empower local communities to improve sustainability.
You will gain an understanding of:
  • How the environment, community and economy are intrinsically linked and cannot be thought of in isolation during decision making processes
  • The global and local legislative and policy drivers for sustainability
  • How to be a leading organisation in sustainability through the adoption of overarching sustainability frameworks for strategies and plans, public reporting, and workplace education and engagement
  • How to empower communities to take a proactive role in their local area.
