Overview

Dealing with Conflict provides the skills to manage conflict within the Council, and between the Local Government and the community and the wider community. This course will enable Elected Members to identify common communication roadblocks, the source of conflicts within Council and develop techniques for resolving conflict situations.

Elected Members will develop the knowledge and skills to improve their conflict resolution skills by examining what conflict is and how conflict affects people. The program will examine some basic communication strategies and how conflict can be dealt with in their work and personal lives.

Target Audience

Suitable for Elected Members who would like to increase their knowledge and understanding of their role within Local Government.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants should be able to:
  • identify situations of potential conflict
  • implement strategies to resolve conflict
  • deal with conflict as required by the Local Government Act 1995
  • handle complaints appropriately
  • identify risks associated with conflict
  • communicate effectively
  • identify ways to avoid conflict; and
  • understand when assistance is required to resolve a conflict.

9:00am - 4:30pm (8:45am registration)

Fees

$525.00 (GST exempt)

Cancellations, transfers and substitutions
  • Requested must be received in writing via email, letter or fax.
  • Cancellations received within 5 working days of the start of the course will incur a 20% administration fee of the full course cost.
  • Non-attendance or cancellations received within 2 working days of the start of the course will incur the full course fee.
  • Participants can only transfer course dates once without incurring the full fee.
  • Substitutions can be made at any time and no fee will be incurred.
