Conflicts of Interest

Overview

Conflicts of Interest provides council members with an understanding of financial, indirect-financial, proximity and impartially interest; disclosure of interests at meetings; and the association between gifts and conflicts of interests. Participants should be able to identify potential and actual conflicts of interest and understand their obligations in relation to declaring interests.

Target Audience

Suitable for both newly elected and returning Elected Members who would like to increase their knowledge and understanding of personal responsibilities associated with the requirement to disclose certain interests.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of completing this program, participants should be able to:

  • identify potential conflicts of interest
  • distinguish and differentiate between various conflicts of interest
  • describe how a conflict of interest affects a council member’s roles and responsibilities
  • understand and refer to the legislative environment for conflicts of interest
  • effectively participate as a council member with a reduced risk of non-compliance with conflict of interest provisions; and
  • understand the rules for the disclosure of gifts.

Fees

$240.00 (GST exempt)

Cancellations, transfers and substitutions
  • Requested must be received in writing via email, letter or fax.
  • Cancellations received within 5 working days of the start of the course will incur a 20% administration fee of the full course cost.
  • Non-attendance or cancellations received within 2 working days of the start of the course will incur the full course fee.
  • Participants can only transfer course dates once without incurring the full fee.
  • Substitutions can be made at any time and no fee will be incurred.
