Last Chance to Register for the WALGA 2019 People and Culture Seminar!
Registrations for the 2019 People and Culture Seminar close this Friday, 4 October.
The Seminar will provide WA Local Governments with an important opportunity to hear from the Hon Bill Johnston MLA regarding the State Industrial Relations Review, and ask questions about the proposed change (which we have summarised  here).
If the State Government is effective in implementing this proposed change, it will effect the day-to-day operations of 88% of WA Local Governments.
We strongly encourage you to attend the Seminar and make the most of this opportunity.

IRSWA Seminar on Enterprise Bargaining at WALGA on Thursday, 10 October.
The Industrial Relations Society of WA invites you to attend an evening seminar hosted by WALGA and Layla Langridge from Sparke Helmore.
Enterprise bargaining has become a mine-field for employers trying to navigate the various provisions of the Fair Work Act 2009. This seminar will provide you with insight on:
  • recent statistics on enterprise bargaining - what does the data tell us?
  • factors leading to the decline in enterprise bargaining
  • issues employers need to consider when determining if employees are better off overall, and
  • recent cases that are shaping the future of enterprise bargaining.

Update – Mondelez Decision on Personal/Carer’s Leave
Further to our ER Alert on 2 September 2019, the Morrison Government and Mondelez International have announced their intention to seek special leave from the High Court to appeal the decision in  Mondelez v AMWU [2019] FCAFC 138. We will continue to update our subscribers as this case progresses.
