WALGA Employee Relations provides human resource management and industrial relations support to Local Government members. Our staff have extensive knowledge of contemporary human resources and industrial relations practices, relevant legislation, employment tribunal matters and the Local Government sector, that qualifies them to act as representatives of individual Local Governments and the sector generally.

The WALGA Employee Relations subscription content is only accessible to users from subscribing Local Governments who have been approved access.

Membership of WALGA Employee Relations is by subscription. This service is available to WA Local Governments, the cost of which is based on the size of the Local Government. WALGA has a formal agreement with Local Government Association Northern Territory (LGANT) to provide industrial relations, employee relations and human resource advice to Northern Territory Local Governments. Subscription Services

Employee Relations provides the following services under the annual subscription to our Local Government Subscribers:

Industrial Advocacy and Representation

Provides a professional negotiation and advocacy service in the Fair Work Commission, WA Industrial Relations Commission and the Equal Opportunity Commission. The service includes preparation, presentation and advocacy representation at most conciliation conferences.


Represents the Local Government sector when Awards are reviewed. 

Employee Relations Advice and Award Interpretation

A telephone and email service is available for advice on employee relations matters including enterprise agreements, awards, performance management and dismissal of employees. Assistance is also provided on the review of documentation (letters, reports) to support HR, Managers and Supervisors in the effective management of their employees.

Employee Relations Alerts

Develops and distributes Employee Relations Alerts on a wide range of workplace relations issues relevant to Local Governments. These Alerts are issued by email each year on critical issues varying from current case law to Fair Work Commission rulings. Access to past Alerts is available on our secure internet site.

Template Policies and Procedures

A number of templates are available that address the basic concepts of human resource procedures and which may be adopted or modified by individual Local Governments to suit their workplace.

WALGA provides the following services on a fee for service basis.

Enterprise Agreement Negotiations

Assistance is available on a fee for service basis to assist Members with the development of enterprise agreements. This service is particularly helpful when formal negotiations with employee representatives are involved.

Salary and Workforce Survey

The WALGA Salary and Workforce Survey is a comprehensive survey of Local Government workforce, remuneration and benefits and human resource management. Subscribers to the survey receive a written report and access to an online portal with more customised results and additional resources.
