Protecting our Coast

Western Australians love the coast. Additional funding is needed to protect the coast and millions of dollars of infrastructure assets at risk from coastal erosion. This risk will only increase as the climate warms due to climate change.

WALGA is calling on the State Government to provide an additional $50m in funding to Coast WA to protect our coast and coastal assets. The funding would be used to provide tools, technical support and project funding to Local Governments will help protect some of our most important state assets, as well as millions of dollars of physical infrastructure.

Without this commitment, we risk buildings and other physical infrastructure being literally washed away.

Funding to protect the coast and coastal assets is needed now, before the problem becomes even worse and even more expensive to address.

Investing in Coast WA will also deliver significant benefits for our economy, creating 430 jobs over four years and adding $63.6 million to Gross State Product.
