WALGA consults with its Members on a variety of topics to inform our advocacy and service offering to Members.

The scope of our requests for feedback reflects the range of operations conducted by Local Government.
Please see below for items for which we are currently seeking feedback from our Members.

State Government Discussion Paper: Proposed Privacy Legislation

The WA State Government has recently released a Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Discussion Paper seeking feedback on proposals for new legislation to protect personal information collected and managed by the WA public sector, including Local Government, and to set out the rules for safely sharing information. Most other States and Territories already have privacy legislation in operation.
Local Governments are encouraged to read the Discussion Paper and consider the proposals from the perspective of implications for information collected and managed by Local Government and communities' expectations for how their personal information will be managed.

Submissions are due by Friday, 1 November to the Public Sector Reform Unit, Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Draft Local Government Guidelines for Restoration and Reinstatement in WA

A working group convened by IPWEA and WALGA have drafted Local Government guidelines for restoration and reinstatement of works by contractors in the road reserve and other Local Government managed property. Local Governments are encouraged to provide feedback on the Guidelines.

The guidelines provide advice for Local Governments in the management of works by contractors in the road reserve or on other Local Government managed property.

It sets out the responsibilities of contractors for planning, approval and acceptance of works and provides minimum standards for the reinstatement and restoration of roads, footpaths, structures and verges.

The guidelines supersede the IPWEA Restoration and Reinstatement Specifications for Local Government in WA, 2002.
The draft can be viewed here.
Please provide feedback to Administration Officer, Infrastructure Audra de Pina by Friday, 31 October.
