On 11 April 2019, the Western Australian State Government tabled the Final Report of the Ministerial Review of the State Industrial Relations System ( Final Report) and a document outlining the Proposed Reforms in Response to the Ministerial Review of the State Industrial Relations System including proposed reforms in relation to the Local Government sector ( Proposed Reforms).

On 12 December 2018, the Fair Work Act 2009 ( FW Act) was amended to provide all employees, including casuals, covered by the National Employment Standards ( NES) with an entitlement to five days’ unpaid leave each year to allow them to address violent, threatening or abusive behaviour that they may be experiencing from a close relative.

  • The Minister for Commerce and Industrial Relations has announced a review of the State industrial relations system.
     
  • The review will address whether Local Governments should be regulated by the State industrial relations system.
     
  • WALGA has been invited to make a submission by 24 November 2017, and will be consulting with the sector over the next 3 weeks.
     
  • WALGA is inviting written feedback on the review terms of reference and will host a Sector Reference Group consultation meeting to inform a representative sector position.
