A banner depicting iconic images from the Goldfields has taken out top prize in the 2016 Banners in the Terrace Competition.

59 communities entered banners in the competition run by the WA Local Government Association as part of its annual Convention at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

WALGA Chief Executive Officer Ricky Burges said this year the banners showed the variety of landscapes, lifestyles and communities that exist across the State.

“Many of the banners used colour and composition to great effect in conveying the essence of their local area and community,” Ms Burges said.

The winning banner shows iconic imagery of the Golden Pipeline and a prospector and is painted in the style of historic train posters.

“It is beautifully developed, with wonderful colours and tight composition, depicting a unique part of our State,” Ms Burges said.

“The judges were very impressed with the layout and richness of the banner and felt the artist had perfectly captured the historical style.”

The annual Banners in the Terrace Competition has categories open to primary and secondary schools, community groups and professional artists. The competition winners were announced at the 2016 WA Local Government Convention and Exhibition, which attracts more than 600 Local Government representatives and over 100 suppliers to the sector.
