Description

WALGA will be holding a joint webinar with the Department of Communities and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries on the child safeguarding reforms from the Royal Commission.

Speakers of the webinar will discuss the reforms and how they will potentially impact Local Governments.

These reforms are part of the implementation of recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

  • How the WA State Government is progressing the implementation of National Principles and system of independent oversight.
  • A specific recommendation from the Royal Commission was for Local Governments to designate Child Safety Officers within existing staff profiles to fulfil four functions. The Department of Communities supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is leading the implementation of this recommendation. The WA State Government will provide an update on how this recommendation is being progressed.
