Planning for Car Parking

04 Dec

The Planning for Car Parking event, hosted by WALGA, will offer attendees an opportunity to hear from a range of local, national and international speakers on the topic of parking.

The event, hosted by respected architect and town planner Ross Povey, will include the launch of WALGA’s Local Government Car Parking Guideline.
The guideline has been prepared for Local Governments seeking to trial and adopt alternative parking approaches. It aims to help planners, engineers, parking inspectors, rangers and facility managers to prepare and adopt parking strategies, management plans and local planning policies.

The event is targeted at Local Government Officers within the planning, transport, engineering, environment, sustainability, infrastructure and community portfolios, as well as Elected Members.

  • University of California, Los Angeles Professor Donald Shoup , the world leading expert in car parking planning and management and author of Parking and the City, will present a live keynote address
  • Amadeus Rainbow (Coordinator Parking, Town of Victoria Park) will discuss the Town’s recent dynamic parking trial along Albany Highway, including outcomes and key lessons.
  • Gareth Glanville (Strategic Planning, City of Stirling) will share how and why the City applies location-based parking requirements based on parking supply and demand, in its local and neighbourhood centres.
  • Philip DeAraugo (City of Greater Bendigo, Victoria) will discuss how and why the regional City is removing minimum requirements from its planning scheme and city centre, and lessons for local governments in Western Australia.
Following these presentations, Ross Povey, respected architect and town planner, will host a  discussion panel including Jacob Martin (Team Leader Transport Planning, Cardno), Louise Fogarty (Senior Transport Planner, Department of Transport), Amadeus Rainbow (Town of Victoria Park) and Gareth Glanville (City of Stirling).

Registration includes a light breakfast and networking opportunities.
