Description

WALGA is very excited to be the next host of the ‘Let’s Talk Racism’ workshops facilitated by City of Melville and City of Cockburn representatives Leanne Woods, Marlee Kickett, Christine Young and Barbara Freeman.

The ‘ Let’s Talk About Racism’ workshop is a successful, unique and evolving program that tackles racism head on, its impacts, causes and solutions.

For non-Aboriginal staff - the workshop is about helping you to become an agent of change in your organisation and to understand the important role that allies to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can play in supporting our colleagues in our workplaces.  It fits well with Reconciliation Action Plans that have a focus on strengthening our relationships.

The workshop will increase your understanding of how racism works, its impacts on Aboriginal people, and what we can all do to challenge and stand against it. An important part of the workshop is “truth telling” and providing opportunities for us all to be heard and listened to.

This workshop gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the power to speak out and share their history, experience, and truth. It’s an opportunity to discuss and teach non-Aboriginal people about the harsh reality of the not so recent past, the current hurdles and what the future looks like right now for their next generation. The power is in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ voices and being able to personalise stories, turns it into reality for non- Aboriginal people participating.

Please note:
Workshop places are limited and are only offered to Reconciliation Engagement Network members. It will run across two days and members will need to commit to both days in order for their registration to be accepted.
