2021 #shoWcAse in Pixels

Following the cancellation of the 2020 competition due to COVID-19, WALGA is pleased to announce that the #shoWcAse in Pixels competition will be back in 2021.

The annual exhibition of artwork from Local Governments will be displayed on the iconic 45-metre high digital tower at the heart of Yagan Square in Perth City in the afternoon, from Monday, 6 September to Sunday, 26 September,

This format of display means our participants are no longer restricted to PVC canvas - creativity is encouraged.

As one of the State’s largest ongoing community arts projects, this event is widely acknowledged as being one of the most colourful and vibrant displays throughout the year, and we are very appreciative of the support provided by Screenwest for this year’s competition.

Traditionally (until 2018), the artwork, in the form of physical banners, were hung on the poles along St Georges and Adelaide Terraces. Since 2019, WALGA has the opportunity to display the digital artwork designs on the Yagan Square Digital Tower Screens.

The categories are:
  • Junior Primary (pre-primary to Year 3)
  • Upper Primary (Year 4 - 6)
  • Secondary (Year 7 - 12)
  • Community groups/ amateur artist(s)/ Non-Professional
  • Professional/Digitally Designed Artwork
WALGA can only accept entries from Local Governments - please approach your local Council if you are not a Local Government staff member. Submissions close on Thursday, 12 August. VIew the InfoPack for more information.

Upon confirmation from Yagan Square in August, WALGA will post the screening time of the artworks on this page.

The winners of the 2021 #shoWcAse in Pixels art competition will be announced at the gala dinner of the WA Local Government Convention 2021 on Monday, 21 September.
