In 2016 WALGA began presenting a range of interactive and sector relevant webinars specifically developed for the Local Government sector.
Not only do Webinars allow you to hear from sector experts on topical issues affecting your Local Government, but they also allow you to interact with your colleagues from around the State without spending time and money travelling to a specific location.
Webinars will be announced throughout the year in response to the dynamic Local Government landscape, so make sure you regularly check this page to see the latest we have on offer. Alternatively you can subscribe to our monthly
Training eNews publication and have webinar notifications delivered direct to your email address.
Local Government Gift Declaration
Wednesday, 8 March
5:00PM - 5:45PM (AWST)
WALGA is pleased to present the ‘Local Government Gift Declaration’ webinar which will be hosted on
Wednesday, 8 March
5:00pm. This webinar is in response to concerns that both the gift provisions and declaration obligations are onerous and confusing. Despite the prospect of changes coming in the future, this webinar aims to create awareness among Local Government Elected Members and employees of the current requirements in the Local Government Act, Regulations and Code of Conduct regarding gifts. Following the webinar, you should have a clearer understanding on how to make an appropriate gift declaration. The webinar will feature presentations on:
- Gifts that are exempt from declaration;
- What makes a gift ‘notifiable’ and ‘prohibited’;
- Obligations of all employees and additional rules for designated employees;
- Declaring other gifts over the value of $200.00; and
- The consequences of receiving a gift.
The webinar will conclude with information on WALGA’s advocacy position for changes to the Local Government Act, followed by an opportunity to have your questions answered in our Q&A session.
