Elected Member Skill Set
is designed to provide the introductory skills and knowledge required to operate effectively in the Local Government environment. Encompassing completion of Stage One of WALGA Training's (RTO 51992)
Elected Member Learning and Development Pathway
, this nationally recognised training program contains three units of competency that form the LGASS00002 Elected Member Skill Set contained within the LGA04 Local Government Training Package.

Who Will Benefit
Suitable for both newly elected and returning Elected Members who would like to refresh their knowledge and understanding of their role within Local Government.

- An overview of the roles and responsibilities of Elected Members, the Local Government environment and protocols and procedures affecting the way Local Governments operate.
- An overview of the statutory environment relating to declarations of interest and the personal responsibilities of Elected Members to comply with their obligations.
- Internal and external influences on Elected Members and the necessity to perform their role in a due diligence environment.
- Complementary roles and functions of those involved in the decision making levels of Local Government.
- Meeting procedures and high level debating techniques.
- Understanding of the benefits of undertaking financial forecasting and the impacts key decision making may have on the organisation’s financial bottom line.
What is Required to Complete the Program
To gain a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, participants must complete the full Elected Member Skill Set and complete assessment tasks comprising of evidence collected from the Student, generally after attending training, to demonstrate the Student can satisfactorily meet the requirements of the unit(s) of competency related to the training completed (see
Student Handbook
for further information and definition).
