Financial Fundamentals - Monthly Annual Reporting examines the legislation, organisational and accounting principles that apply to Local Government accounting, including taxation principles.

The course covers the accounting process, financial reporting responsibilities and annual financial report process.

Topics covered within the course will include the legislative framework for Local Government accounting; classification of transactions; managing the accounting function; monthly and annual financial reporting responsibilities; and preparation of annual financial report.

Suitable for Local Government Officers and Managers who would like to increase their knowledge of Local Government financial management, reporting and budgeting.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of completing this program, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the legislative framework that applies to Local Government accounting
  • Recognise how accounting, taxation and organisational principles that apply to the Local Government accounting function
  • Understand the classification of transactions in Local Government accounting
  • Understand the preparation of monthly financial reports

  • Engage in the preparation of annual financial report.
