Accounts Receivable for Local Government examines the legislation, organisational and accounting principles that apply to raising of debts and collection of monies, including taxation principles, and details the internal controls that should be in place.

The course covers in detail the initiation, certification and authorisation procedures, linking each back to the appropriate source documents.

Target Audience

Suitable for Local Government Officers whose role requires them to carry out tasks and activities involved in the accounts receivable and credit control functions.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants should be able to understand:

  • legislative framework that applies to accounts receivable;
  • accounting, taxation and organisational principles that apply to the accounts receivable function;
  • the use of internal controls in the initiation, certification and authorisation procedures of accounts receivable;
  • maintaining an accounts receivable system;
  • reconciling and reviewing accounts receivable balances; and
  • collection procedures for outstanding debts.
