Local Governments support arts and culture in their communities, through the provision of arts and culture infrastructure (galleries, libraries, art, and museums) events, festivals, public installations and preservation of local history and stories.
The recent figures (in the Australian Bureau of Statistics report on Cultural Funding by Government in 2012/13) show a significant investment of $155 million by the 140 Western Australian Local Government authorities; the third highest per capita figure nationally.
The recent Arts and Culture in Western Australian Local Government report by Community Arts Network (CAN) and the Chamber for Arts and Culture, highlighted the efforts and commitment of Local Government to arts and culture. It recognised the significant investment that the sector makes each year.
