Margaret River Fire Appeal
Added on: Friday, November 25, 2011

Individuals and organisations wishing to assist those impacted by the Margaret River bushfires are urged to donate through the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund (LMDRF). The State emergency fund has been activated to coordinate donations to support victims of the bushfires which have destroyed more than 25 homes and property in the Margaret River area.

WA Local Government Association President Mayor Troy Pickard urged those interested in assisting to donate funds through the LMDRFs dedicated appeal account at BankWest or the City of Perth.

“These devastating bushfires have affected the entire Margaret River community, and many West Australians are asking how they can help,” Mayor Pickard said.

“The best way to assist victims of this catastrophic event is to donate to the relief fund.”

Donations to the Margaret River Fire appeal established by the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund can be made:

• Via BankWest’s Appeal account BSB 306-089, account 287738-4
• In person at any BankWest branch or agency
• In person at the City of Perth’s customer service counter at Council House in the city
• Via credit card in calling the City of Perth on 9461 3333
• By mail to Margaret River Fire Appeal, care of the City of Perth, GPO Box C120, PERTH 6839.

Mayor Pickard said victims would require immediate support with more than 70 individuals currently in emergency accommodation or relocation centres.

Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said she was shocked by the sudden and devastating impact of the fire and extensive loss and damage to property.

“Most people would be shocked by news of the fire and through the LMDRF they can help those people who are suffering now and who face a big job in rebuilding or cleaning up after the fires are extinguished,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“The LMDRF is run by an independent board and all the money goes to victims, with donations of $2.00 and above being tax deductible.

“The appeal is set up in a way that allows assistance to be dispensed rapidly.”
