Local Government Elections will be taking place Saturday, 16 October, with all electors of a district eligible to vote.

If you’re already enrolled for State and Commonwealth elections, you are automatically enrolled to vote in Local Government elections – you can check your enrolment status with the Electoral Commission.

Some Councils conduct in person voting on election day, Saturday, 16 October whilst others conduct postal votes with ballot papers sent via mail to enrolled voters from the end of September.  See the following links for Councils conducting in person voting and postal elections conducted by the Electoral Commission.

You can find out about local candidates from your local Council. More information about elections can be found from the Electoral Commission or the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

Local Government plays a critical role in building and maintaining strong communities, and all electors have a democratic right to choose the Elected Members they believe will drive the strategic direction of their Council

Local Government elections in WA are run on a ‘first past the post’ voting system so the community gets the representatives that the majority chooses, and the only way to impact local decisions is to participate.

So be a vocal local, and have your say.  Learn more about your local candidates and exercise your right to vote in the October elections!
