NAMN Forum: Improving the Water Quality of Waterways and Wetlands

Description

Please join us for this fantastic opportunity to hear about initiatives that aim to improve the water quality of riverine, estuarine and wetland environments at the catchment and local scale. Expert speakers include representatives from the Shire of Collie, Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Water Corporation, South West Catchments Council, South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare and WALGA Preferred Suppliers.

Information presented will be applicable to metropolitan areas and the south-west region of Western Australia.  Specific topics will include:

restoring the health of river estuaries (Regional Estuaries Initiative),
  • aquatic weed management and restoration of riparian zones
  • landholder management of agricultural nutrient inputs
  • design effectiveness and long-term maintenance of bioretention swales
  • rivercare programs for endangered species such as the Geocrinia frog
  • ecologically sound mosquito management (Mozzie Wise)
  • climate resilient water supply for the south-west region, and
  • design of behaviour change campaigns for community traction and results (Home River Ocean).
The Shire of Collie is located in a region of natural beauty surrounded by forest and waterways that provide important environmental, economic, social and cultural values, as well as being a key source of water for many communities in the south-west of Western Australia.  The Shire is 200km south of Perth, making a day trip achievable for city-based attendees.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided.  Sufficent parking is available at the venue.

Attendees are advised to wear enclosed shoes for a site visit to the Collie River, which is a 150m walk from the venue.
