WALGA host a full day Aboriginal Culture and Heritage Preservation Forum on Wednesday, 2 August at the Perth Convention Centre, alongside the annual WA Local Government Convention.

Experts from a number of organisations including the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, the Aboriginal Land and Sea Councils in Western Australia, the National Trust of WA, the WA Indigenous Tourism Operators Council and Local Government authorities will provide information to assist Local Governments better engage with Aboriginal groups when planning and undertaking projects in their municipalities.

Information presented will include:
• appropriate acknowledgement of traditional land owners
• family group representation by WA’s Aboriginal Land and Sea Councils
• significance of registered heritage and other heritage sites
• purpose of Noongar Standard Heritage Agreements
• Aboriginal engagement and project consultation processes
• raising cultural awareness through artwork and other interpretive materials
• Local Government Aboriginal employment, trainee and tourism programs, and
• case studies of successful Local Government and Aboriginal partnerships.

Information presented will be relevant to both metropolitan and remote areas of Western Australia.
 

Parking

To eliminate issues related to parking at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on the day, we recommend you utilise public transport.

• Registrations may be transferred to another registrant at any time but must be advised in writing.
