WALGA operates an internal Business Development team who are responsible for assessing new Preferred Supplier arrangements and establishing sector level aggregation and whole of Local Government procurement initiatives. The team operate to an established procurement timetable and manage their tenders in accordance with the Local Government (Functions and General) Regulations, 1996.

As innovators and entrepreneurs, WALGA’s Business Development Team research a large number of potential business proposals that are aimed at delivering cost effective solutions and highly significant administrative efficiencies across the Local Government sector. Within changing markets, and through the use of emerging technology, WALGA’s Corporate Business Solutions program has provided millions of dollars worth of aggregated savings and benefits to the sector, whilst provisioning market share and sufficient volume of business to suppliers to develop offers for the sector that would otherwise remain unviable. Local Government in Western Australia spends more than $2 billion per annum on sustaining its operations. WALGA’s Preferred Supplier Program has demonstrated the economy of scale benefits that sit within sector level aggregation, delivering benefits to the sector that include dedicated research and development, value added service and account management, procurement process and supply chain savings, and cost savings that range from 10% to 40% off standard pricing models.

Local Governments purchasing through WALGA’s Preferred Supplier program have the ability to directly access contracts of any value due to a tender exemption that is specified within Local Government procurement regulations. They also have the confidence that WALGA has a comprehensive set of terms and conditions which support each contract to ensure all aspects of the procurement are fully defined and that the obligations of both supplier and purchaser are fully scoped and costed into each purchase arrangement.
